Kenneth Gaylord Parrent ( "Ken") , age 84, of Lewistown , Montana, died on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee, after battling aggressive Leukemia for more than six months. Ken was born December 3rd, 1925, to Richard Gaylord "Slim" Parrent and Anna Ellise Jordon Parrent .
Ken graduated from Sunburst High School in 1944, along with classmates and long time friends Howard and Harvey Schliemann, Ben Werner and Bob Baker, to name only few. He served in the US Army Air Corps as a radio operator from June, 1944 to December, 1945. He graduated in 1952 from the Montana School of Mines in Butte Montana with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Ken never lost his thirst for knowledge and desire for learning. He described himself as a " Petroleum Engineer, creative technician and grateful student of the world". His accomplishments included production engineering and management of several oil wells in the Libyan Desert from 1969 through 1974. He facilitated exploration in the waters of Indonesia, and he managed and produced critical infrastructure building materials for the development of a petroleum refinery in Indonesia. In hist later years in Colorado and Montana, h e developed a revolutionary system of micro blending for which he was awarded a patentinFluid Kinetics, issued by the US Patent Office in 2007.
He and his brother Clarence Willard "Bud" Parrent shared in their father's achievements in the oil fields of Montana and Wyoming. Ken's career took him around the world in petroleum production and oil field development, including Libya, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
Ken married Laura Louise Ormson of Cut Bank, Montana, on August 29, 1948. Together they began their family of daughter Gayle Marie Parrent and, later, son Ross Edward Parrent . The family migrated from Casper to Salt Lake to the Denver area over the next several years. Ken and Laura were divorced in 1967.
Ken is survived by his two children, three grand children - Minette Levee Juric , Melanie Ruth BraultWeisberg and Rachel Louise Parrent , and two great-grand children, Alana and Christian Juric .
